As Christians, it is the Gospel that changes everything. We not only receive forgiveness of sins, eternal life, and a personal relationship with God through Christ, we also have a very new way of living in the here and now. In other words, the Gospel is not just about a decision we made in the past or a future hope of glory. It is the good news informing the way we live now. Matthew tells us Jesus came proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom (Matthew 4:23) and then the next words he records coming from Christ constitute what has come to be known as “The Sermon on the Mount” with all of it’s here and now practical implications. So, clearly the Gospel of the Kingdom is a here and now Gospel as well as a future expectation.
